This berry blast includes berries and leaves from the Flame Leaf Sumac Tree. This tree is one of the most hardy and breath-taking ladies in Texas's fall foliage.
Texas doesn't have a fall leaf to look forward to, other than this one. Her skinny lanceolate leaves start to go pink, then tease disappointment by getting a yellow tinge before they flame up into a red with a hint of fuchsia. The berries, at this point, look like brown ice cream cones. They have dried and are ready to be plucked and made into a tasty tart tea much like hibiscus.
The leaves have long been used by Native Americans to wash out wounds and treat acne.
YOU MAY BE ALLERGIC to Flame Leaf Sumac if you have allergies to cashews, mango skin, or poison ivy. I am very allergic to poison ivy, but have no reaction to this product.
